Dear Neighbors:
A number of you have asked for an update on the manhunt in CPW yesterday, and we’re still trying to get an official update from the police. We will send out an update as soon as we have further information. In the meantime, here’s a Gazette news story on the incident that you might like to read: http://www.gazette.net/stories/06232009/prinnew155021_32560.shtml
Bob Ryan, Director of Public Services for the City of College Park, has sent us the following important tips to keep in mind as we work to build a safe neighborhood:
Regarding 9-1-1: “We have updated our advice based on police recommendations that any suspicious activity where suspects are still present on the scene should be reported to 9-1-1 the same as any other incidents still in progress. The non-emergency number 301-333-4000 should be used to report non-violent crimes discovered after the fact, e.g. broken windows, or more general concerns for chronic suspicious activity.”
Regarding the pursuit of suspected offenders in the neighborhood: “I hope the police officers warned of the danger in pursuing suspects, even though useful information was obtained. We need to remind neighborhood watch participants that their personal safety is the highest priority.”
Let’s keep these in mind as we look out for the safety of our neighborhood.
